Wishes Wedding

Wishes is my favorite nighttime activity at Walt Disney World. Between working in MK and going to see the show all the time, I have it memorized. The way to my heart is easily to watch Wishes with me and love it just as much. And, I’d imagine, the show is a magical opportunity for many men wanting to pop the question at the perfect moment.  Seriously, just check YouTube. Anyways, this show is perfect inspiration for a magical, pixie dust-filled wedding. For this board you’ll see I focused mostly on the glitter and sparkle… it could really be an inspiration board for any fireworks show theme. The “Wishes” aspect comes from the ideas that can’t be portrayed in pictures.

And with that we move towards….

Great Ideas that Aren’t on the Board

• Purchase simple star ornaments and provide silver metallic sharpies for your guests to write their “wish upon a star” for the couple. Then the newlyweds will also have a great start for their first Christmas tree (PS: I also really love Christmas…)
• For the introduction of the Bridal Party, have everyone walk into the Wishes Set Free part from Wishes (and act along to the corresponding part):
  *I wish I could go to the ball*
  *I’m wishing someday my prince will come* 
  *I wish, oh how I wish I could be part of that world*
  *I wish we’d never have to grow up, off to Neverland, haha!*
  *You know what Jimminy, someday I wish I could be a real boy*
  *Genie, I wish for your freedom*
  And then the bride and groom walk into the instrumental for Go the Distance

Mickey and Minnie Wedding

So many options, but I thought the yellow and red colors best suited the Boss. I think there’s a fine line when balancing Mickey and Minnie and Weddings… for more of a general wedding, stick with the theme colors with small Mickey and Minnie touches. For more of a Mouse-tastic design, go all out with Bride and Groom ears, cake toppers, etc.

• I absolutely love the Mickey Mouse Tuxedo bow from Magical Ribbons. She can do it with a bow tie clip, which I think would be perfect for the groom
• So many options for favors… you can do chocolate molds, candy buffets, caramel apples

Cinderella’s Wedding

Wait, what? I’m sure by now you’re checking the list at the top to see if surely I’ve done this already. After all, Cinderella is Disney’s quintessential princess, the one most of their weddings are themed after… surely it’s been done here already? Nope. I decided to wait on Cinderella, but being as it’s the weekend, and Cinderella images are quite possibly the easiest to find, here you go. I mostly love the Glass Slipper sorbet in the bottom left, as well as the Glass Slipper rings next to it. The pumpkin place card holders up at top are perfect because, to me, they look like they’re half carriage, half pumpkin.

Great Ideas that Aren’t on the Board

• If you’ve never heard of it, google Magic Kingdom Bridal Portrait Session. You can only get it if you have a wedding at Disney, and to me this makes every penny spent on a Disney wedding worth it. 
• If you’re up for a late wedding, make sure at midnight the bride changes into her reception dress, for an extra special bit of magic.
• There are so many options for carriage favors or glass slipper favors, and I couldn’t really find room for any. 

Mary Poppins Jolly Holiday Wedding

This is a modern take on a Mary Poppins wedding. Once again, I didn’t want to go too kitsch, but just wanted to grab the spirit of Mary Poppins. There are the umbrellas, the kites, the carousel, and, of course, the bird seed (tuppence a bag!).

• There should be a carpet bag set up for letters and well-wishes from guests
• I really love the idea of a chimney sweep arch for the bride and groom…. I’ve read something about it being lucky to have a chimney sweep at your wedding =D
• Nicely decorated bags of crystalized sugar (in different colors) with the epitaph: A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down

Nightmare Before Christmas Wedding

So for this theme there’s so much you could do. If you wanted you could go either Halloween-esque, Christmasy, or both really. As with most themed weddings I design, I prefer the more subtle themes instead of all out character. You’ll see for this board I have the patchwork bridesmaids dress instead of bridal gown. It’s a simply striped bow tie instead of a large outstretched bat (although I will admit that was more of a lack of classy photos). The real place the theme can shine is the cake (which, once again, I went with something a little more subtle.) I love the use of curves, like in the center picture.

• Instead of a flower girl and ring-bearer, three children with masks or make-up and throwing candy instead of flowers
• Tables named after holidays, perhaps place cards on tree trunks
• I’d try to incorporate Zero somehow… though I can’t figure out which would be best…

Hercules Wedding

One of my favorite Disney songs, hands down, is Go the Distance. Can’t you just imagine it playing as you walk down the aisle in this Hercules/Greek themed wedding? “I am on my way, I can go the distance…” Alright, yes, a bit cheesy, but isn’t that what this blog is about? Cheese is great, tacky is where I draw the the line—and there is a fine line between a Hercules theme and a toga party. 

Instead of focusing on clothing and togas, this board tried its best to focus instead on Greek columns. The photo in the upper right corner is entirely made out of flowers! Now that’s some decoration! I did pay some attention to the clothes, mostly because designers make it easier for women to go ancient Greek. I do love those bridesmaid dresses, because each girl can change their design.

• As the start of this post says, walking down the aisle to “Go the Distance”… if you can’t commit fully to the song, you could do the instrumental
• Tables named after mystical creatures: like a pegasus, satyr, hydra, or nymph
• Lightning bolt cufflinks for the groom (also works for a Harry Potter wedding =P)

A Hundred Acre Wedding

Deep in the Hundred Acre Woods a magical reception awaits the right couple. This Winnie-the-Pooh inspired wedding in complete with honey favors, tigger ties, and a general Hundred Acre feel.

• The bridesmaids carrying bouquets of carrots, nicely arranged, of course, perhaps with flowers included Pooh’s Korner for the younger guests to play, perhaps even with stuffed animals 
• For the invitations, the response cards should have a picture of Tigger next to yes response and Eeyore next to no

Frontierland Wedding

Okay, I’m obsessed with this one, most likely because it is from the area I work in, and I know a couple getting married next year who met through the DCP—one worked in Frontierland, the other at the Wilderness Lodge. So this was a really fun board to work on =D

There are a few important things to note on this board. 

1. The train track bridal portraits, in honor of Big Thunder Mountain (currently under refurbishment til May)
2. The twigs in the bouquet, to symbolize that illustrious briar patch (also note the Disney-created Splash Mountain cake on the right side)
3. The favors at the bottom are a very creative way to give Disney pins and still keep in theme! The reason these are perfect for this bored is the Trading Post in Frontierland is the biggest pin trading shop in Magic Kingdom!

Great Ideas that Aren’t on the Board

• *Ceremony Idea* If you’re really low on costs, and if you don’t mind possibly getting in trouble, just ride Splash Mountain—the two of you and someone to perform the ceremony. Recite your vows during the ride, and then kiss for the big drop. Everyone in the party can be waiting down at the Photo Preview area for cheers when you get off. NOTE: This is probably not a good idea, and there is a good chance that you’ll get kicked out of the park. I am not encouraging this behavior, merely suggesting a fun *imaginary* idea. 
• There should also be a candy buffet with old time candies, like the ones they sell at Cracker Barrel. These would be aimed to represent the Prairie Outpost candy shop. 

Haunted Mansion Wedding

Taking a slight break from the Fairy Tale Weddings, tonight’s post is one of ghoulish delight. The Haunted Mansion is one of the rides at Magic Kingdom that sort of has a cult following. There are special celebrations for Mansion fans, online groups, fan clubs all over. This board was a special request of a friend, but I hope everyone enjoys it. Please note the table assignments also serve as favors, so that the ghosts will follow everyone home.

• Some way to incorporate the music room (the room with the levitating musical instruments), even if they’re just hanging during the reception
• Dusty, cob-webbed centerpieces
• Bridal portraits taken in the graveyard
