Wishes Wedding

Wishes is my favorite nighttime activity at Walt Disney World. Between working in MK and going to see the show all the time, I have it memorized. The way to my heart is easily to watch Wishes with me and love it just as much. And, I’d imagine, the show is a magical opportunity for many men wanting to pop the question at the perfect moment. Seriously, just check YouTube. Anyways, this show is perfect inspiration for a magical, pixie dust-filled wedding. For this board you’ll see I focused mostly on the glitter and sparkle… it could really be an inspiration board for any fireworks show theme. The “Wishes” aspect comes from the ideas that can’t be portrayed in pictures.

Great Ideas that Aren’t on the Board

Purchase simple star ornaments and provide silver metallic sharpies for your guests to write their “wish upon a star” for the couple. Then the newlyweds will also have a great start for their first Christmas tree (PS: I also really love Christmas…)
For the introduction of the Bridal Party, have everyone walk into the Wishes Set Free part from Wishes (and act along to the corresponding part):

*I’m wishing someday my prince will come*
*I wish, oh how I wish I could be part of that world*
*I wish we’d never have to grow up, off to Neverland, haha!*

Thank you so much, all of you, for your support of my blog. It really means a lot to me <3 Unfortunately I received some awful news today about my grandma passing away, and I’m going to need some time away from this for just a little bit. I promise in the next week or so I will be back again with just as much Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust as before. Thank you for your continued support. I love you all! Call your grandparents <3

Mickey and Minnie Wedding

So many options, but I thought the yellow and red colors best suited the Boss. I think there’s a fine line when balancing Mickey and Minnie and Weddings… for more of a general wedding, stick with the theme colors with small Mickey and Minnie touches. For more of a Mouse-tastic design, go all out with Bride and Groom ears, cake toppers, etc.

Cinderella’s Wedding

Wait, what? I’m sure by now you’re checking the list at the top to see if surely I’ve done this already. After all, Cinderella is Disney’s quintessential princess, the one most of their weddings are themed after… surely it’s been done here already? Nope. I decided to wait on Cinderella, but being as it’s the weekend, and Cinderella images are quite possibly the easiest to find, here you go. I mostly love the Glass Slipper sorbet in the bottom left, as well as the Glass Slipper rings next to it. The pumpkin place card holders up at top are perfect because, to me, they look like they’re half carriage, half pumpkin.

If you’ve never heard of it, google Magic Kingdom Bridal Portrait Session. You can only get it if you have a wedding at Disney, and to me this makes every penny spent on a Disney wedding worth it.
If you’re up for a late wedding, make sure at midnight the bride changes into her reception dress, for an extra special bit of magic.
There are so many options for carriage favors or glass slipper favors, and I couldn’t really find room for any.

Mary Poppins Jolly Holiday Wedding

This is a modern take on a Mary Poppins wedding. Once again, I didn’t want to go too kitsch, but just wanted to grab the spirit of Mary Poppins. There are the umbrellas, the kites, the carousel, and, of course, the bird seed (tuppence a bag!).

Nightmare Before Christmas Wedding

So for this theme there’s so much you could do. If you wanted you could go either Halloween-esque, Christmasy, or both really. As with most themed weddings I design, I prefer the more subtle themes instead of all out character. You’ll see for this board I have the patchwork bridesmaids dress instead of bridal gown. It’s a simply striped bow tie instead of a large outstretched bat (although I will admit that was more of a lack of classy photos). The real place the theme can shine is the cake (which, once again, I went with something a little more subtle.) I love the use of curves, like in the center picture.

Tables named after holidays, perhaps place cards on tree trunks
I’d try to incorporate Zero somehow… though I can’t figure out which would be best…

Hercules Wedding

One of my favorite Disney songs, hands down, is Go the Distance. Can’t you just imagine it playing as you walk down the aisle in this Hercules/Greek themed wedding? “I am on my way, I can go the distance…” Alright, yes, a bit cheesy, but isn’t that what this blog is about? Cheese is great, tacky is where I draw the the line—and there is a fine line between a Hercules theme and a toga party.

Instead of focusing on clothing and togas, this board tried its best to focus instead on Greek columns. The photo in the upper right corner is entirely made out of flowers! Now that’s some decoration! I did pay some attention to the clothes, mostly because designers make it easier for women to go ancient Greek. I do love those bridesmaid dresses, because each girl can change their design.

Frontierland Wedding

Okay, I’m obsessed with this one, most likely because it is from the area I work in, and I know a couple getting married next year who met through the DCP—one worked in Frontierland, the other at the Wilderness Lodge. So this was a really fun board to work on =D

There are a few important things to note on this board.

The train track bridal portraits, in honor of Big Thunder Mountain (currently under refurbishment til May)
The twigs in the bouquet, to symbolize that illustrious briar patch (also note the Disney-created Splash Mountain cake on the right side)
The favors at the bottom are a very creative way to give Disney pins and still keep in theme! The reason these are perfect for this bored is the Trading Post in Frontierland is the biggest pin trading shop in Magic Kingdom!

*Ceremony Idea* If you’re really low on costs, and if you don’t mind possibly getting in trouble, just ride Splash Mountain—the two of you and someone to perform the ceremony. Recite your vows during the ride, and then kiss for the big drop. Everyone in the party can be waiting down at the Photo Preview area for cheers when you get off. NOTE: This is probably not a good idea, and there is a good chance that you’ll get kicked out of the park. I am not encouraging this behavior, merely suggesting a fun *imaginary* idea.
There should also be a candy buffet with old time candies, like the ones they sell at Cracker Barrel. These would be aimed to represent the Prairie Outpost candy shop.

Haunted Mansion Wedding

Taking a slight break from the Fairy Tale Weddings, tonight’s post is one of ghoulish delight. The Haunted Mansion is one of the rides at Magic Kingdom that sort of has a cult following. There are special celebrations for Mansion fans, online groups, fan clubs all over. This board was a special request of a friend, but I hope everyone enjoys it. Please note the table assignments also serve as favors, so that the ghosts will follow everyone home.

Up is one of the most requested Disney-themed weddings. Who wouldn’t want to start their marriage the same way as Carl and Ellie? I have only one problem with Up inspired weddings: I hate balloons as wedding decorations. I know it makes sense for the Up theme, but balloons in general just scream tacky to me. I always think of those balloon arches at proms of the 80s. As you can see, the only instance I allowed balloons for this wedding was the bridal portrait (and the fake ones for the cake). One thing I really want to mention is the mailbox next to the cake, used as a collection for cards. And, of course, a dog for the best man.

I really like the idea of the Bride’s bouquet (or the Bridesmaids dresses) being the same colors as Kevin (the bird)
While looking for photos I came across this and love how the bride’s bouquet has the same pin as the groom is wearing
The favors should be little badges (like the scout badges) for fun things that describe the couple

Princess and the Frog Wedding

I’ll admit I’ve only seen Princess and the Frog 2 or 3 times, I’m not the biggest fan. But I hope this board captured the spirit of the movie. Particularly I enjoy the firefly mason jar in the top left, as well as the green shoes—connecting the princess as well as the frog. I also enjoy the addition of the beignets and jazz music.

Lion King Safari Wedding

Lion King - not the easiest theme to design a wedding around. This wedding was designed more with a safari theme (whereas if I do a Tarzan wedding it will be more jungle). If you’re looking to do this theme but don’t want to travel to Africa, a zoo is a wonderful place as well (as seen in the 2nd and 4th pictures in the bottom row). Making a cameo in this board is my friend Carly and her friend Michael. Carly suggested the guests dress in animal patterns, and although slightly tacky, if you want to go all out, sure, why not?

Toy Story Wedding

Not gonna lie, one of my biggest pet peeves is couples dressed as Woody and Jessie. If you’re a fan of the series, you’ll know that Woody is with Bo Peep, and Jessie is with Buzz. That being said, I realize this is more of a cowboy/western fun wedding than Toy Story. Sadly, when creating Inspiration Boards from online materials you’re limited to what those materials offer. Beauty and the Beast Wedding

It’s a story that’s as old as time: girl meets boy and makes him a better person. Still, it’s one of the most popular love stories in Disney-lore. With the most recent theatrical release of Beauty and the Beast, there’s bound to be more interest in that theme wedding. This particular theme has been on the back-burner in my mind for awhile, so there’s really no way I could get all my ideas into one board. Of course there’s the library wedding (how could there not be with that elaborate gift every bibliophile dreams of?). I’ve also included mirrors as wedding favors (the couple’s window to the outside world), teapot place holders, and a stained glass cake and cookies.

The guestbook table would have a candelabra, wooden clock, and ceramic teapot and cup to symbolize Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts and Chip.
The bridesmaids would each carry a single rose, each rose getting fuller until the Bride comes with either a perfect single rose or a rose bouquet.
A single open-bloomed rose would sit on the napkin on each plate at the reception
Optional antlers in all of the decorating (if you don’t get the joke, this wedding probably isn’t for you =P)

Wonderland Wedding

I usually groaned when my sister picked Alice in Wonderland as the movie to watch for the day. I’m not the biggest fan of the cartoon, but I loved Tim Burton’s recent version with Johnny Depp. I hope this board at least captured the spirit of Lewis Carroll’s famous work. Don’t miss the bouquet with the small timepiece attached, so the bride won’t be late for a very important date. Also, be warned, the flowers have eyes! And, of course, a rose that looks like it was once white, but someone tried to paint it red.

Snow White’s ~~Scary~~ Adventure Wedding

Snow White is my least favorite princess. I know it has something to do with that nasally singing voice. As a Disney-holic though, I feel it’s necessary to pay tribute to the original princess. While I’m not the biggest fan of Disney’s cartoon Snow White, I do love the story. I’m a huge fan of the way The 10th Kingdom portrayed the character, and most recently, I’m in love with Once Upon a Time. So, in honor of a new Once episode tonight, I give you Snow White’s Scary Adventure Wedding. If I could sum up my idea for this wedding, I would just point at the picture in the top right corner and call it a day. I like the contrast of the white and red. One quick thing to note, the bottom middle has 2 photos of DIY pies-in-a-jar.

Fantasyland Wedding

So, one thing I find that’s really easy to do is to just get pictures from Disney Weddings and call it a day. I like to challenge myself a little more than that, so for the Fantasyland wedding, I more or less got pictures that reminded me of Fantasyland—which, more than anything, is a place of Fantasy and Wonder. It’s where the princess finds the prince, where magic reigns. At the top, towards the left, is an invitation that says “All you need is Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust” which is, perhaps, my favorite Disney quote. I mostly find it important for couples because while faith and trust are both highly important, you still need that little bit of magic, however you may describe it.

I was able to get a sword on the board, but what I really would have liked was a sword in the stone—either used as a photo op, or maybe a groom’s cake.

Lilo and Stitch’s Aloha Wedding

Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind, or forgotten.

Tonight’s Board was a tough one. I had about a million ideas, and most just didn’t come to fruition when I couldn’t find the right pictures, so this board depends greatly on the Great Ideas section. Still, what makes me most excited with this theme is the prominence of photos. In Lilo and Stitch, Lilo has a photo fall of people she collects. This could translate into a couple different ideas: 1) Have a board with pictures of the couple growing up or 2) Have a photo booth and let each guest take wacky photos and write well wishes on the white part of the polaroids. I’ll admit, I prefer the second idea. Also note the ice-cream in the bottom middle. I always think of the fat, bad tan line guy who keeps losing his ice-cream when Stitch is around, so if I had a Lilo and Stitch wedding, I’d definitely have an ice-cream booth for guests.

Aladdin Wedding

My personal favorite Disney movie growing up was Aladdin. I’m still in love with “A Whole New World” and would, of course, love to go on a magic carpet ride someday. It was interesting finding pictures for this board, mostly because there’s a difference between an Arabian Nights wedding and a Moroccan wedding. In the end I decided to just go with things that seemed very “Aladdin”.
